I want to fly in to Charleston to come to the march. Will there be a shuttle from there?
There will not be a shuttle available. However, you can take the C&H Taxi (304-344-4902) from the airport to downtown Charleston for $12. You can hop on one of our shuttles or the city bus from there. Please see our shuttle information on the website for details.
Can I come in the middle of the week during the march?
Yes, we have a caravan schedule for folks showing up late. Go ahead and register, filling in clearly what day you plan to arrive.
There are predetermined shuttle times in the early morning and evening from the designated parking lots. Be sure to check the shuttle schedule on the website and make sure you have parked your car in the downtown Charleston lot and are ready to go by the last shuttle time.
That applies to leaving the march early as well.
Is it okay to miss the orientation on Sunday the 5th?
The orientation for the march on June 5th is strongly recommended. Not attending doesn’t mean you can’t come, it just means that you will miss important information regarding the rest of your week.
What if the marching is too hard and I have blisters and heat exhaustion and can’t march anymore?
There will be a van traveling with us with limited space for folks to lay down who need a cool place to rest. If you need to stop marching and take on a different role in the march like meals or camp set up that can be arranged. There will be medics marching with us to address any health concerns that arise from marching. Make sure you think about your capabilities before you come. And practice walking! If you can’t feasibly walk 13 miles a day in June, be honest with yourself and consider taking on a different role.
I can’t physically march that much, but I still want to come. Are there jobs besides marching that I can help out with?
Yes, definitely! There are many roles to fill that don’t involve marching. Meal prep and kitchen crew, camp set up and break down crew, march marshals, shuttle drivers, and water runners. Please consider volunteering for one of these positions for the week. Explanations of these and other roles will be given on orientation day (Sunday, June 5th) and week-long work teams will be formed then.
I want to go but I don’t have a car- How can I hook up with folks from my area going to the march?
First check the ride board, there could be someone already offering a ride, if not, post your need for a ride. If that doesn’t work, contact the person closest to you on the contacts tab. They may be able to hook you up with a group or someone nearby that is driving to the march.
Can I just drive down and park where the march is for the day?
The march route just does not have many places to park. If you want to do this and you can find a place to park, you’ll have to be responsible for yourself, we can’t guarantee a ride back to your car after marching for the day.
Can I bring my dog/pet/animal?
No. If you have a service animal let the organizing body know and we will try to accommodate that.
